Teaching in youth detention is very different to mainstream schooling. As a service provider, Department of Education staff working in the Youth Detention Centre are required to comply with a range of Justice Department safety and security protocols.
From 2022 Cleveland Education and Training Centre (CETC) has delivered education programs within the Youth Detention Centre for 48 weeks of the year. The Governance and Teacher Award Scale are the same as mainstream schools however, holiday periods vary. Staff operate on a roster with leave allocation falling outside the mainstream school holiday periods. All staff employed need to be willing and able to take their leave, as per rosters, outside the school holiday periods to allow delivery of educational programs.
